Butterfly's Dream
2005-12-30
This didn't have a news title until just now
This comic was inspired by a christmas present: volumes 1 and 2 of Zhuang Zi Speaks, the comics by Tsai Chih Chung translated by Brian Bruya. I've always been a fan of Zhuang Zi's weird proclamations (he's also known as Chuang Tsu, the butterfly-dream-having-guy), and probably the influence goes deeper than that.
Trying something a bit different with the colours; what do you think?

Rabish: What happens if you don't try very hard, or not hard enough?
[[Rabid pushes an elevator call button.]]
Rabid: To do this? It requires effort?
Rabid: Oh... oh hey... this button... is not... hey! ARRGH! HEY!!
Rabish: At least the elevator has arrived regardless.
Rabid: I guess...
[[The pair climb a staircase]]
Rabish: Oh... it's...
Rabid: And it's all "up", too...
[[They arrive at a label "-1th"]]
Rabish: Oh! We made it to the basement after all!
Rabid: I guess the button worked after all!
[[They float off into a void.]]
Rabish: Wait, no, we're in a formless void.
Rabid: Oh hells.
Rabid: The button -- you were right! I hadn't allowed myself the freedom to press the button freely & openmindedly... to press it well.
<<The moral & conclusion:>>
Space Frog: To press a button so poorly is not indolence, nor is it incompetence. It is a denial of the true self.

Another redesign. I've clearly got a lot of free time.
